Solo Project 12 weeks time frame
Overview: Introducing two original characters, Vato and Esperanza, from a world called Denizen. My goal was to blend concept art with graphic design. Concept art, commonly used in video games, movies, and animations, serves as a communication tool, enabling artists to convey their ideas to collaborators, directors, and producers. This early artwork establishes the tone, mood, and atmosphere of the project. By incorporating typography and logos that tell a story about the characters, I created a mood board to further develop their personalities.
Synopsis:
This was a special school project that I had the opportunity to choose for myself. I wanted to incorporate my past game design learning with my graphic design skills to flesh out these characters I’ve created

moodboards

I created three mood boards: a main board to establish a grungy and dark layout aesthetic, and two additional boards for each character, showcasing the imagery and heritage they visually represent.
Icons

I wanted to create icons that can be associated with Esperanza and Vato, but also have them relfect their cultural background, with vato I came up with a meso American style icon and a more European gothic one as well, and for Esperanza to her First Nation roots with an icon inspired by northwest formline art.

Process
I created a turn around of front back and side show any details from their clothing. Esperanza is a sniper so her gear is more to cover her in the environment so she wears more baggy clothing,Vato is more on the front line and tactical so more well fitted gear suits him, its important when it comes to character design that each character has a unique silhouette that can be immediately recognized.

extras
Apart of my concept process I will sculpt a quick 3d model for the head to reference off and make sure certain features are shown when I’m drawing traditionally.
